One Billion Rising 2/14/13

“Today, on the planet, a billion women – one of every three women on the planet – will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends violated. V-Day REFUSES to stand by as more than a billion women experience violence. On February 14th, 2013, V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, we are inviting one billion women and those who love them to walk out, DANCE, RISE UP, AND DEMAND an end to this violence. JOIN US.”

Truman will be participating in this global day of action, along with 196 countries and over 5000 organizations. Truman will be rising, but not by walking out. Rather, we’ll be staging in-house risings. RAPP and the Men of Strength (MOST) Club are working on some exciting projects that we intend to share with the world. We invite your ideas and participation too. Whether it’s an art project, a skit, a lesson. If you’d like to record a short PSA on why you’re rising with us, please see Erika Miller in the RAPP room, 425A. Also, feel free to contact me with any questions.

ONE BILLION RISING:

ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME.

ONE BILLION WOMEN VIOLATED IS AN ATROCITY

ONE BILLION WOMEN DANCING IS A REVOLUTION

ONE BILLION RISING IS:

A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being
