Media Students “Get Reel” With Their Dreams

Twenty Media students are pursuing their dreams of careers in broadcasting, journalism, video production and fashion design, thanks in part to a program created by Sade Baderinwa of ABC 7 Eyewitness News.

The “Get Reel With Your Dreams” Program, in partnership with the Lincoln Center Institute and Women in Television and Film, is a two-part experience.  First, students complete a day of community service.  Then they are invited to a one-day workshop with  nearly two-dozen media industry insiders, including network news correspondents, ABC 7 anchors and news managers, among other experts.

After completing the workshops, students will enter a 30-second Public Service Announcement contest, for a share of $30,000 in scholarship money provided by the Disney Corporation.  In the past two years, Truman students won first and second place – bringing home $17,000 in cash for college.

This year’s PSA contest wraps up at the end of May.  Winners will be announced in Mid-June.
