Student Photographer’s Work to Exhibit at the Met

The Arts are alive at Truman – and the evidence is in the second major honor bestowed upon our art students. This time, junior Stephanie Romero was selected out of more than 800 applicants in the Public Schools Art Competition.

Approximately 80 works representing New York City Schools were selected from the applicant pool.   According to their website,  P.S. Art “annually acknowledges outstanding artwork in grades PreK to 12 through an exhibition and catalogue. The New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School convene panels of artists, arts professionals and art educators to serve in two rounds of judging. Final selections highlight outstanding artwork of our students and exemplary practices of their teachers as they relate to the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts.”

The selected works are published in an annual P.S. Art magazine, and will be put on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art beginning in June 2013.  When the exhibit at the Met closes, the works will be moved to the NYC Department of Education headquarters at the Tweed Courthouse.
