RAPP celebrates International Human Rights Day  ~ December 10th.

Discrimination targets individuals and groups that are vulnerable to attack: the disabled, women and girls, the poor, migrants, minorities, and all those who are perceived as different… but these victims of discrimination are not alone. The United Nations is standing with them, committed to defending the rights of all, and particularly the most vulnerable.  That is our identity and our mission.”

International Human Rights Day matters to us because abuse is a human rights violation. Abuse is rooted in the desire of one to maintain power and control over another, whether individually or in groups. Sexism, racism, and heterosexism are tools used by perpetrators of abuse.

Join RAPP & buildOn Peer Leaders for our “Wear Your Advocacy on Your Sleeve (or Heart)”campaign. We have a mission to educate our community about teen dating abuse and to promote healthy relationships & respect. We do this so that we can, one day, live in a world free from abuse.

The realization of all human rights – social, economic and cultural as well as civil and political rights – is hampered by discrimination. All too often, when faced with prejudice and discrimination, political leaders, governments and ordinary citizens are silent or complacent. We need them to SPEAK UP!

We can all make a difference. You are encouraged to celebrate Human Rights Day by advocating non-discrimination, organizing activities, raising awareness and reaching out to your local communities on December 10th and beyond.

Encourage communities or sectors of all sizes to declare themselves to be “discrimination-free”. As such they will promote the observance of and respect for human rights, non-discrimination and diversity.

We invite parents, guardians, community partners, and school staff to take part in this campaign.

For more information, visit Erika Miller, RAPP Coordinator in rm 425A, or Ms. Belita, buildOn Coordinator in rm 425B.

RAPP is a program of STEPS to End Family Violence.
