Students and staff were welcomed with clean and clear walkways after the custodial and maintenance team spent 16 hours on a snow day working to clear the area.

BRONX, NY – While members of New York’s Strongest were out on the streets working to clear the remnant’s of Tuesday’s snowstorm, Truman’s own “strong men”  took to the sidewalks and pathways around the building with shovels, snow blowers and a tractor-mounted plow.  The custodial and maintenance team members spent around 16 hours clearing the sidewalks and pathways leading up to the building.

“It’s pretty amazing.  The fact that they’re dedicated to their work to make sure that we’re all here and have safe pathways so nobody can slip and fall,” said Truman sophomore Sammie Hawkins. “They just make everything overall better.  It’s pretty cool.  Respect to them!”

While students and staff were enjoying a snow day inside their warm homes, a team of 18 members of the maintenance staff was out in full force throughout the duration of the storm.  While an exact measure of how much area the crew had to clear was not available, there are at least a few hundred yards worth of sidewalk that snake around the building.

“I think it’s astonishing, the fact that they were here on a snow day and worked so hard to help the students and the teachers come in safe and sound,” said Truman senior Matthew Malave. “That’s dedication right there!”

“They did great!” Hawkins added.
