Culinary Student Appears on “The Chew”

Brayden Boscio listens closely as celebrity chef Mario Batali describes the recipe they’ll be making on ABC’s The Chew.

BRONX, NY – Truman’s own culinary senior Brayden Boscio recently made an appearance on the hit ABC Television show “The Chew” on May 3rd.

“It was phenomenal,” Boscio said.  “I couldn’t believe it. It was breathtaking. Being able to cook with one of the #1 chefs in America – Mario Batali, was just absolutely incredible.”

The Chew had just completed a profile feature on another chef who turned his life around as part of the Careers through Culinary Arts Program, also known as CCAP.  After that segment, Brayden and another CCAP student joined celebrity chef host Mario Batali for a 6 minute cooking demonstration.  At the end of the demo, Batali surprised both of his guests.

“You have passed the interview!” he said.  Then he offered Boscio an internship in one of his New York City restaurants.  Boscio credited his success to his culinary instructors Jeff Brylski and Harold Chase.

Boscio is no stranger to success.  He was recently selected to receive a full scholarship to a summer study-abroad program in Italy, where he will continue his culinary arts education.  He said that his experience at Truman High School has shaped who he’s become as a young adult.

“Truman has offered me so much personally, and just made me into a better person,” he said.  “I didn’t have a passion going in until junior year at Truman, and it’s just been an inspiration.  The people here are amazing.  The staff are so supportive.”
