HEMPSTEAD, New York – Voters headed to the polls in New York State’s Gubernatorial primary election on Thursday, but just a week before that, Truman students got an up-close and personal look at the Democratic nominees debate, held at Hofstra University.

Sarah Ramsumair and Sheldon Yawson, both students in Truman’s Law Program were invited to go to the debate as student reporters.  They spent the evening inside the media filing room, sitting alongside veteran journalists from CBS, NBC, and even 1010 WINS radio.

At the conclusion of the event, the pair moved into the “spin room” where they were able to interview and get reaction from audience members at the debate, as well as surrogates for both Governor Andrew Cuomo and challenger Cynthia Nixon.

The trip was made possible through a program called Altice Connects.  Altice USA is the parent company the News 12 The Bronx and News 12 Brooklyn networks. For more photos and a video from the event, CLICK HERE.
