UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – They finally learned what puts the “Happy” in “Happy Valley.”  A bus load of over forty Truman students made the four-hour journey to the center of Pennsylvania to tour Penn State University on March 28th.

“I’ve been here ten minutes, and I already want to go to school here,” said Sheldon Yawson, a Truman senior who has already earned an offer of admission to Penn State’s University Park Campus.

The day on campus started with an all-you-can-eat buffet in the Pollock Commons Dining Hall, followed by an admissions presentation in the Shields building.  From there, students were given a walking tour of the sprawling campus – including a look at a sample dorm room, some classrooms and HUB-Robeson Student Union building.

“We really wanted to inspire them to strive for the kind of grades and classroom performance that it takes to get accepted to a world class university like Penn State,” said media teacher and Penn State graduate Mr. David Roush.  “One of the best ways to do that is bring them here.  To let them see it, touch it, feel it and smell it for themselves.  This experience makes it real for them.  It makes an unforgettable impression.  The campus really sells itself.”

The tour concluded with a stop at Penn State’s famous Berkey Creamery where students sampled ice cream and milkshakes before boarding the bus for the journey home.
