BRONX, NY — Are you ready to make your summer count? Harry S. Truman High School is excited to announce that the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) is now officially accepting applications for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
SYEP is the nation’s largest youth employment program, offering New York City students a unique opportunity to explore career interests, gain professional experience, and—most importantly—earn a paycheck.
Choose Your Path
The program is divided into two distinct tracks based on your age as of July 1, 2026:
-
Younger Youth (Ages 14–15): Focus on career exploration and participate in paid, project-based activities designed to build your resume.
-
Older Youth (Ages 16–24): Gain hands-on experience through a paid summer job in an industry that aligns with your personal interests and goals.
How to Apply
The application process is entirely online. Students can head to application.nycsyep.com to start their profile.
Pro-Tip: When the application asks for your District Borough Number (DBN), Truman students should use code 11X455.
Essential Application Tips
To ensure your application is processed correctly, please keep the following in mind:
-
Check Your Email Daily: Use an email address that you access regularly. If you are selected via the lottery, this is how you will receive your invitation and next steps.
-
Know Your GPA: If you need to reference your Grade Point Average, you can find it by logging into SCOIR under your profile tab.
-
No Paperwork Required Yet: You do not need to upload your ID, Social Security card, or other documents just to apply. You will only need to provide those if you are selected later this spring.
Special Considerations
SYEP provides dedicated pathways for students with specific needs to ensure everyone has access to summer work. In the “Other Information” section of the application, please check the appropriate boxes if you:
-
Have an IEP or a disability (Learning, Cognitive, Physical, or Mental Health).
-
Reside in NYCHA housing.
-
Are in foster care or facing temporary housing/homelessness.
Deadline & Support
The firm deadline to submit your application is Friday, February 27, 2026. Do not wait until the last minute, as the lottery system is highly competitive!
If you have any questions or need assistance completing the online form, please reach out to your guidance counselor or email the school’s SYEP coordinator directly.
