Students Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Club advisor Shamasia Campbell awaits students at entry.

BRONX, NY – Students at Harry S Truman High School are “going pink” in the month of October in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Members of the “Crafty Hands” club volunteered in the effort by handing out pens, pencils, sunglasses, and several other giveaways to their classmates at student entry.

“We want to raise awareness about breast cancer,” says club advisor Barbara Moye-Staten.  She joined the students on the first floor during the giveaways.   She says this is one small way that students can make others aware of the fight.

According to breastcancer.org, about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
