Students Secure $75k in Virtual Business Pitch Competition

Business & Entreprenurship Students at the Lightning Business Pitch Competition.

BRONX, NY – Think of it like “Shark Tank…” but for students.  That is exactly what students in Truman High School’s Business & Entrepreneurship Program experienced recently as they participated in a pitch competition with the Virtual Enterprises International program.  The Lightning Business Pitch Competition was held on the campus of Long Island University in Brooklyn.

“Students had to make a business pitch to a group of judges to gain investment for their business idea,” according to Mr. Joehill.  The students created a business plan for a virtual company they called “Genzurance.”

“Genzurance is an insurance company operating from room 522 at the Harry S Truman High School on the Virtual Enterprise Platform,” Mr. Joehill added.

The payoff?  Students secured a virtual investment of $75,000 – a much needed investment for their company, which they started in September 2023.  Students who participated in the competition included Taraneh Diaz, Vincent Diaz, Irving-Daniel Trinidad Peña, Abad Butt, Shanell Murray, and Seid Djalla.
