BRONX, NY – The Harry S Truman High School Safety Committee is reminding parents and guardians to drive carefully and reduce speed when entering school property, following concerns raised at the committee’s most recent meeting about vehicles speeding through the school parking lot during arrival and dismissal times.
Arrival and dismissal are the busiest times of the school day, with hundreds of students walking through and around the parking lot. Speeding in the lot puts students, staff, and other families at risk.
The committee asks all drivers to keep the following in mind while on school grounds:
- Slow down and remain alert at all times in the parking lot.
- Watch for students crossing between parked vehicles and at crosswalks.
- Follow the directions of school safety staff during arrival and dismissal.
- Put the phone away — distracted driving endangers everyone in the lot.
Student safety is a shared responsibility. Harry S Truman High School thanks all of its families for doing their part to keep arrival and dismissal safe for everyone. Families with questions or concerns may contact the school directly at (718) 904-5400.
