BRONX, NY – For an artist, there are few things more exciting than being told that your work is some of “the best,” and will be on public display for the world to see.  That hope has become reality for two Truman art students.

Jassandra “JJ” Gonzalez and Yanely Pichardo recently submitted their paintings to the Bronx Borough Arts Festival – and just received word that their work was selected to be exhibited at the Lehman College Art Gallery in June as part of the Bronx Borough Arts Festival.

Gonzalez’s piece is entitled “Our Future Life,” and depicts a portrait of her parents at a later stage in their lives.

Pichardo’s painting, called “The Beauty of Nature” is a part of a larger portfolio she created for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Art course.  The piece depicts the beauty of nature, but is cautionary of the fact that humans are sometimes doing things to harm that beauty.

“It’s wonderful,” said art teacher Ms. Paula Mills. “It’s nice that they’re getting showcased – that the work we do here at Truman is really high-level.”  Ms. Mills went on to say that Principal Keri Alfano has recently made large investments in the art programs at the school and she is happy to see the students’ work acknowledged.  This year marks the first time Truman students have submitted and been selected for the festival.

A special event is planned at Lehman College on June 11th at 6:30pm.
